Welcome to Christ Church Anglican – Fort Macleod
Meet the Priest – The Rev. Dr. Julio R
eis Simões The Rev. Dr. Julio Reis Simões serves as the Incumbent Priest at Christ Church, Fort Macleod. Born in Juiz de Fora, Brazil, and shaped by a life of teaching, writing, liturgical arts, and pastoral accompaniment, Julio brings a theology that breathes—curious, embodied, and rooted in the margins. Julio holds a doctorate in Religious Studies and has spent over two decades engaging the intersections of faith, justice, art, and identity. His ministry draws from liberation theology, Afro-Brazilian spirituality, queer and poetic theologies, and the enduring mystery of the Gospel. He joined the Anglican Diocese of Calgary in 2024. In the pulpit, Julio preaches with reverence and playfulness. He doesn’t aim to give all the answers—but to stir the holy questions. His sermons open with story, dig into paradox, and leave space for grace to settle where it needs to. He believes the Gospel invites reversal, surprise, and healing—not just for individuals, but for whole communities. “Is he traditional?” Yes—if tradition includes prophets and poets. “Is he a bit different?” You might say that. But so is the kingdom of God. “Can I trust him?” If you’re ready to hear both silence and song, yes. At Christ Church, Julio nurtures a liturgical, welcoming space where laughter is holy, ambiguity isn’t feared, and the Spirit has room to dance. Whether you’re full of questions, heavy with doubt, or simply curious, you are welcome.
